FIRST EDITION, first impression (190 x 120 mmm), pp. 238 and 2 pages of publication adverts at the end. Illustrated throughout with inhabited headpeices and inhabited initials at starts of chapters. Bright blue cloth cover with gilt Kaa the Cobra and ornamentation on top and bottom; title on spine. Small bookplate on top left of front paste down: “ J. & H. Platt 36 Fishergate, Preston” One lifting of the pigment on the front fly leaf, minor bumping to extremities, but overall NEAR FINE condition.
